Image of itemThe Upton Reads Book Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 12:45 and on the second Thursday of each month at 6:45 in the library gathering room. Sue Pfeiffer from the library staff leads a casual and thought-provoking discussion of an eclectic mix of contemporary literary fiction. Copies of each month’s book are available at the library. Please call the library directly at 529-6272 to request a copy of this month's title.

This month we are reading A Well Behaved Woman by Therese Anne Fowler.

Alva Smith, her southern family destitute after the Civil War, married into one of America's great Gilded Age dynasties: the newly wealthy but socially shunned Vanderbilts. Ignored by New York's old-money circles and determined to win respect, she designed and built nine mansions, hosted grand balls, and arranged for her daughter to marry a duke. But Alva also defied convention for women of her time, asserting power within her marriage and becoming a leader in the women's suffrage movement.
