In Memory of George Klink

George Klink, a resident of Upton, long-time Library Trustee and supporter of the Upton Town Library passed away on Thursday, September 11th, 2014.

A memory of George:

My first visit to Upton was to interview for an open position at the Upton Town Library.  I met the current Library Director and a few of the Library Trustees, including a friendly, craggy-faced man with a bushy moustache wearing a cowboy hat.
At the end of the interview, this gentleman leaned in and said, "Now that's over with and we can talk about something really important... what are your favorite books?"

Over the next ten years, I got to know George as both the library trustee who always served on the personnel sub-committee because, "The most important part of a library is not the building or the collection, but the employees", and as a patron who shared some of his fascinating life history and who would check out his favorite books once per year, not just to read them, but to keep them active in circulation so they wouldn't be removed from the collection.

George will be missed at the Trustees' meetings, in the library, and across the town, and at every interview for library staff, we'll continue to ask at the end, "what are your favorite books?"
